LeKiu Importing Company is packing up its 80,000-square-foot Vancouver warehouse — complete with its old, wood-beam ceilings — off the Georgia Street viaduct where Strathcona meets Chinatown.
In a few weeks, the food importer’s final batch of boxes will be delivered to a new location and LeKiu will bid farewell to what has been home for more than 20 years. But forgetting that home will be impossible as the company’s history is linked to Chinatown’s earliest days and the sorting of endless piles of stuff includes the dusting off of fascinating mementos.
